Advance Decisions.

Make your wishes known. Our team can help you plan for a time when you may not be able to make decisions for yourself, giving you control over your future healthcare.

An Advance Decision (also known as a Living Will) allows you to set out the medical treatments you wish to refuse in certain circumstances. It ensures that your voice is heard, even if you’re unable to communicate, and helps avoid uncertainty for your loved ones and healthcare providers.

What is an Advance Decision?

An Advance Decision is a legal document that lets you refuse specific medical treatments in advance, in case you lose the capacity to make or communicate decisions in the future. It’s a key part of planning ahead and ensuring your healthcare preferences are followed.

Why should I make an Advance Decision?

You may want to create an Advance Decision if you:

  • Wish to retain control over the medical treatment you receive
  • Have strong beliefs or preferences about life-sustaining treatment
  • Have been diagnosed with a degenerative condition or terminal illness
  • Want to ease the burden on your loved ones during difficult times
  • Are planning alongside a Lasting Power of Attorney for Health and Welfare

What are my options?

Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment (ADRT)

This allows you to refuse specific treatments under certain conditions, including life-sustaining treatment. It must meet legal requirements to be valid and applicable.

Advance Statement

Though not legally binding, an Advance Statement can express your preferences, values, and wishes about future care – guiding your loved ones and medical team.
