What is Celebration Day?

While many mark the Spring Bank Holiday as a chance to unwind, May 26th 2025 also holds deeper significance as Celebration Day — a day to remember and honour those who have passed away.

It’s a time for reflection. A time for stories. And importantly, a time to think about legacy — both the memories we leave behind and the practical matters that shape the lives of those we leave behind.

What Is Celebration Day?
Celebration Day was created to open up conversations around loss, legacy, and remembrance, helping people feel more comfortable talking about those who have passed. Whether it’s a family member, friend, mentor, or colleague, the aim is to remember the good they brought to your life.

There’s no “right” way to take part, but some choose to:

  • Light a candle in someone’s honour

  • Visit a meaningful place or plant something in remembrance

  • Reflect quietly, share photographs, write a letter, or talk to loved ones about shared memories

It’s also a time many people use to reflect not only on lives past, but on the legacies we’re creating for the future.

Why Legacy Matters
When we think about legacy, it’s not just about money. It’s about people. It’s about making sure that, when the time comes, your family isn’t left unsure of your wishes, or burdened by avoidable legal complications.

At Atterbury Payne, we believe that planning ahead is one of the kindest things you can do for those you leave behind.

Three Legal Steps Worth Taking:
Make or Review Your Will

Your will is your voice on paper. It’s how you make sure:

  • Your loved ones are provided for

  • Your assets go where you want them to

  • Any children or dependents have clear guardianship plans

If you don’t have a will, or if it hasn’t been updated in a while, this is the perfect time to put it in place.

Appoint a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

If you were ever unable to make decisions for yourself, who would step in?
An LPA lets you choose someone you trust to manage your finances or make health decisions on your behalf.

Setting this up now can save heartache and confusion later.

Consider Gifts that Reflect Your Values

Many people choose to leave a legacy to a charity or cause close to their heart. Doing so can:

We can help structure charitable gifts in your will to make sure they are legally sound and tax-efficient.

So much of legal planning is about protection — but it’s also about love. This Celebration Day, we invite you to do something quietly powerful: take a step toward protecting the people who matter most to you.
